I have been using UltraVNC on my Vista box for quite a while now. Connect to it with an XP box. All works well.

Have a friend who has Gentoo. Building/Configuring something for Gentoo is preferable for the Gentoo box than going with a per-built software package.

What recommendations are there ...

The server seems to want to say it is running java, even though the box is not checked. I put the java port to 0 and then unchecked it. That fixed it for me.

Yes, I am in the same situation. I cannot let people see when I am working on a remote box, and I have no idea who is around the said remote box.

Is there a stop gap measure that can be implemented until the code base is reviewed?

It means that Java is running on the server side and that will not fly. Unchecking the Java option, no problem.

Have the SecureVNC plug-in going between XP box and Vista box now. When both boxes are on the same LAN, I can connect with view from XP to Vista with no problem. When connecting through the web, I get an error message:
"Server Closed Connection: The Server running as Application"

Right, the keyboard and mouse are disabled, but the monitor is still showing. Any idea why and how to turn it off?

Right, clicking that button only disabled input. The monitor does not go blank.

BTW, where is the documentation for UltraVNC?
