Ok,
everything seems to be back to normal. I boldly went and reinstalled UltraVNC and nothing got broken this time. It now works nicely from my laptop.
The server has had no major problems in the past and it's under heavy rendering use almost every day. I must have messed up something in the first ...

I would, but I don't have one :oops:
But I found one site that lists the default services for all Windows 7 variants - I tried to follow that to switch on all the necessary services.
It seems to have worked. I'm running a virus scan now, because my firewall failed in the first couple of restarts ...

I started putting the services back on one by one... at least Aero is back now (desktop looks normal again), but there's still a bunch or problems. I have never seen anything like this happen before, strange!

Hi,
I just downloaded UltraVNC - at first I went for the "X64 bins" and run the exe it had and ended up with the admin properties window jumping on me endlessly. I killed the service when I finally found it.
Confused for the lack of installer, I went and downloaded the other package, X64 Full, and ...
