my two cents about the pregressive encoding:

A 100% compatible way to implement. I think...

Only server needs to be modified, so an old viewer -and also tightvnc viewer- can benefit of this strategy.

Server behaviour -> tight encoder with JPEG enabled

- Sends changed rectangle with jpeg al worst ...
