AESV2 conflict with Quicktime Player

Post by BackToFront »

Problem: Having Quicktime (version "7.5" on apple's website, specifically 7.50.61.0) installed on a client computer (one using the UltraVNC Viewer) trying to connect to a server makes the UltraVNC viewer using the AESV2 dsm plugin not work at all.

Specifically, with quicktime installed, opening up the UltraVNC viewer, configuring the DSMPlugin and connecting to the server (which does work in all tests without quicktime installed) will cause the "VNC Viewer Status" window to popup and then less than a second later (too quick to read anything) the entire viewer process will end. No password request, no errors, or anything. Subsequent attempts may get a hang on "Negotiating Protocol Version..." and then not work.

Tests:
Client- UltraVNC Viewer 1.0.4 (the Security-Update-2---Feb-8-2008 one)
Server- 1.0.2 (Build Jun 18 2006)

Client computers and servers tested were windows XP Professional (most tests done on both service pack 2 and 3). There were no other similarities in hardware or software. All tests were also done with servers and clients being connected to the same router and with them being separated by about 150 miles in location (and different ISPs).

There are no conflicts with UltraVNC server. Having this version of quicktime installed on the server and not the client makes the AESV2 connection work as usual. Having quicktime installed on both causes the conflict (duh).

Having this version of quicktime (have not tried with other versions) installed on either the server, the client, or both creates NO conflicts with the ARC4 plugin the MSRC4 no-reg plugin, or using no DSM plugin. The connection will go through no matter what in these cases.

The installer used is the one which you get from apple's website, the version without itunes. This creates two entries in the add/remove programs list in the control panel. Removing the "Adobe Software Update" does not solve the conflict. Removing "Quicktime" makes the AESV2 connection work immediately.

I have looked through the options in Quicktime, disabling as much as I can in hopes to remove the conflict, but could not find anything.

Hope this helps others. Thanks for the awesome program. I did a search on these forums for quicktime and couldn't find anything related, so sorry if this is a repost.
