How to setup Ultravnc with ARC4 encryption

Postby etirps.sprite » 2010-01-07 11:08

Hi,

I have two laptops (win7 home & vista home) in my home network. Since, some of my neighbors use my network occasionally, I wish to setup UltraVnc with encryption on the two of my laptops. I wish to access either of the laptops from the other one, hence I require server & client on both the machines.

For encryption I see that I have the following 3 options with DSM Plugin:
MSRC4Plugin.dsm
SecureVNCPlugin.dsm
SecureVNCPluginARC4.dsm

Kindly let me know which one of the above is best suited for my needs. Somewhere in your documentation/forum/references I read that ARC4 provides best performance, hence I tried configuring it.

I am able to logon to localhost (with the ARC4 plugin) on both the machines if I have "allow loopback connections" checked. However, I am not able to connect to either of the machines from the other one. I have generated the server & viewer keys for the ARC4 plugin from the viewer->config option. Do I need to copy the keys somewhere, to make this work.

Please let me know what I am doing wrong, and my apologies if this question has already been posted somewhere else.

Regards,
Etirps

Ok, I solved my problem by interchanging the Viewer_ClientAuth.pkey files on the two laptops (http://adamwalling.com/SecureVNC/).

However now, I also have one more machine (XP Home) from which I would like to do vnc (securely) to my other two laptops and vice-versa. So, now I essentially have 3 systems on my network, and I wish to connect to any of them from any other system securely.

So, how do I copy the keys now? :(

Is there any way UVNC can have multiple clientAuth.pkeys and use the one corresponding to the server to which connect to???

you doing complicate for this usage

securevnc was made for just select the plugin and restart winvnc and is ready secure connection.
just remove all your .pkey and .pubkey at all side and it use dynamic key on every connection for server and viewer

but if you required to use your own pubkey and pkey
follow the step for use multiple keys with corresponding server
you just need to adapt the work around of msrc4plugin for securevnc
Using a Unique RC4.KEY for each Server

Hi redge,

Thanks, things worked excellently after I deleted the pubkey and pkey files. :-D

However, I would like to setup the machines with the key files (just for experimentation).
I will try to work the alternative you have mentioned over the weekend and will post back later.

I guess, this should be a standard feature built into UVNC. Why hasn't it yet been included?
