Encryption plugin woes

Post by kazman »

Ladies and gentlemen,

Long ago I tried to get UVNC to work with DSM plugin, but failed. But in the last few days I have been reading the FAQ's in this forum and anything else I can find on this subject - all to no solution regarding the same issue: I can't get DSM plugin to work at all!

I put a newly created rc4.key file on both the server PC and the viewer PC in the %programfiles%\UltraVNC and %systemroot%\system32\ folders, and restart the service, even restart the PC's, but still nothing. Of course, I have checked the "Use DSMplugin" option on both the viewer and server, both set to MSRC4Plugin.dsm.

Here's the error I'm getting:

**********************************************
"Connection failed - Invalid protocol!

Possible causes:

-You've forgotten to select a DSMPlugin and the Server uses a DSMPlugin
-The selected DSMPlugin is not compatible with the one running on the Server
-The selected DSMPlugin is not correctly configured (also possibly on the Server)
-The password you've possibly entered is incorrect

*************************************************

Well, I'm running UltraVNC 1.0.2 on both the server and the viewer PC's. I have made sure both have the exact same rc4.key file. The passwords are fine as I connect just fine when the "Use DSMPlugin" option is not checked on both server/viewer. So what gives?

So what do you all think? What am I doing wrong here?

Thank you in advance for your help.

By the way, searching through this forum about this issue I'm starting to think I'm the only one with this issue, so it's either something simple I'm not doing right, or something rather complex... then again, I don't know...

Yeah, sorry, here's the missing info:

Plugin: MSRC4Plugin.dsm version 1.2.0.0 on both server and viewer

OS: WinXP-SP3 (viewer) to Win2000-SP4 (server)

*have also tried doing the same between two XP machines and two 2000 machines, both times got the same error*

rc4.key: exact same file copied to both computers (verified same contents)

last official version of MSRC4Plugin is 1.2.4.0
where some bug fix where made in case of limited user (opposite of computer administrator) plugin write to %temp%
if no better result with msrc4plugin 1.2.4.0
could you try with uvnc 1.0.9.5 compatible with w2k

Thank you for all your help, redge. I will continue to try to make this work, and if/when successful, I will post here what happened.
