Server must be restarted after unexpected disconnect.

Post by Trenton_net »

Hey,

I don't know if anyone else experiences this, but I have found that after the client is disconnected from the server unexpectedly, it leaves the server in a "bad" state, and won't let any other connections in. It ether hangs at Negotiating protocols, or the client itself will just return the standard "You are not using the same plug-in, same key…" etc message.

I have noticed this because on our LAN, connections via the Internet are killed after 2 minutes of non-activity. So, if you leave your client minimized while you do other things and return to it, you'll find the connection has been terminated. Naturally the client when refreshed will show that you've dropped connection. If you try to reconnect to the server again, it will reject you.

The only workaround I have found so far is to remote restart the service, or reboot the machine to clear the issue. Sometimes you require a reboot because the service won't respond to your requests.

This occurs in the latest release of UltraVNC with plugin. I have also tried the latest beta plugin to see if it resolves the issue, but unfortunatly it doesn't.

sorry, is unrelated to dsmplugin, but only vncviewer

workaround:
minimized tabbed_vncviewer resolved this isssue by sending fews byte every fews seconds for stay up the communication and fixed security issue/bug

There is a different solution that works for me: Simply unplug the LAN cable for a second, or cut power to the switch the computer is connected to.
Windows will detect that the LAN connection is gone, and reset all open connections.

I have a very similar problem, although slightly different.
I'm running ultravnc 1.02 and msrc1.22, but what happens to me, is after about 2 minutes of no activity (ie minimised the viewer to do other stuff) the vnc server on the remote pc crashes (granted its only a few meters away, but that isnt the point).
It runs completely fine when I don't have the dsm plugin running, but turn it on and beware.
Unlike Chromix, once the server is running again, everything is fine, I don't need to pull any cables.

Just wondering if this is a known issue

for stop the breaking connection caused by inactivity of vncviewer.exe traffic.

again workaround:
minimized tabbed_vncviewer resolved this isssue by sending fews byte every fews seconds for stay up the communication and fixed security issue/bug

Hi all,

I'm having the exact same problem. I'm using the latest server, running as an application not a service on a Windows 98 machine, with the latest
AESV2 DSM plugin installed and working on both sides.

On the client side, I'm using tabbed_vncviewer_129, using a WiFi connection. Unfortunately, with WiFi, sometimes the signal is weak and the connection is lost. It isn't lost due to inactivity, so the client sending
a few bytes regularly won't help this situation.

When I try to relaunch the client it hangs at the Negotiating Protocol stage.

The server is at a remote location, I cannot physically restart it or pull LAN cables or anything like that.

Is this a bug on the server side, or with the plugin, or not a bug at all?

Thanks
dof

bug of low cost quality of most WLAN card product. (most problem of switching between 802.11b/g (force to use only one network 54Mbits/ or 11Mbit/s could resolve some issue but not all)

I use tabbed_vncviewer from Geneva of ADSL (3500/300 kbit/s) for remote support user live at Paris connected trough WLAN client card netgear without any issue (WLAN netgear only 802.11b 11 Mbit/s connected to access point ADSL

Not one to cry or anything, but tabbed viewer 129 seems to work, but is there anyway to hide the menubar, like you could hide the buttons in viewer that comes with the 1.02 setup package? It just doesn't feel right with a menu bar.
