Not getting it

Post by mr2ns »

Guys im having troubles and reading on the forums im getting further confused.
End Resolution: I want to be able to remote to another machine based on AD credentials. I want to attach a AD Group where i can add users in, so that the group is the only one allowed to remote into peoples machines. I have installed UltraVNC 1.0.2

I understand that it requires MS Logon to be setup but i have tried 1. ticking the domain box and putting domain\group to allow full access. But this doesnt work. I have tried using MS Logon 2 and adding only the group that i have created and that still doesnt work. It seems to continue looking at the Local Admin group of the PC im trying to remote to.

We are using XP Pro for the desktops. Please Help!!!!!!!!!

Two questions:

1) In MS Logon II, are you sure you're locating the user in the domain (when you go to Add Users, "From This Location" says the domain name rather than the local machine name)? If not, click Locations and then select your domain.

2) When you're at the viewer machine and connecting to the server, do you type in the full domain\username format for the user you want to authenticate as, in the username field when asked? (not sure if this is theoretically necessary but usually seemed to be needed in my experience)

Edit:
Also, check your setup against this:

So frusturating. I have done all the checks and its fine.

I have this installed on one test PC. So once i modify the vnc server part to look use mslogon2 and add the ad group (domain AD group) i logoff the machine and login as a user that is the member of that group and try to remote to a machine. Though it wont let her remote to another machine. She gets the error that authentication failed. Where if she still stays logged into the pc and i use my account (has domain admins access) it lets me remote to a machine. So its not see the MSLogon2 part....

Any helpers?

the fix was that it was already setup.
There was an acl file on each computer in the program files menu.
I modified the acl.txt file on the clients machine i was trying to connect to. I added an ad group with the usual cyntax 00000x3 or something like that, and then the domain group i created with a bunch of random users.
I then imported the settings into vnc on that client machine. I then got one of those random users to try and remote to that machine and it worked a treat. So we just updated that file on everyones machine and imported it into there vnc settings which is just a command line switch.
easy really.
