uvnc doesn't work in ms-logon-mode

Post by buegeleisen »

in short:

normal password-mode works perfectly, however, if i change to domain-logon, every time i try to apply the settings i just get the "execute as"-window. no matter what i chose here, the question reappears every time. also when trying to start oder (re)install the service. even when i uninstall the service i get asked.

i tried to reinstall uvnc several times, tried to use domain groups, local users, domain users.

domain-client os is winxp sp3, server-os is linux (rhel4).

anyone any idea?

with 1.0.2 on another machine it works by the way, except if you're trying to access the machine with any other viewer than ultravnc, including krdc, directvnc and xtightvncviewer under linux, and realvnc under windows.

what is kind of funny, because i thought vnc is a kind of standard, but though everyone seems to brew their own beer...

To save the setting, you must uncheck the "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activities". Of course, the current user must be having the right to write/save the "ultravnc.ini"

there's the problem. the run-as-window pops up every time _regardless_ of what i select, and unchecking that was the first thing i did.

the ultravnc.ini is writeable for the current user, the changed settings are changed, too.

the only thing that is not saved, as it seems, is the setting regarding the user to execute vnc.

but i have no clue where this information should be stored normally, as the uvnc_service under services has no protect-option and is executed as local system account.

last thing i tried is to monitor winvnc.exe with filemon, that brings some rather strange messages (strange as in "didn't see messages like that with other programs before") like

#process; #request; #path; #result; #other
winvnc.exe; query information; c:\programme\ultravnc\kernel32.dll; not found; attributes: error
winvnc.exe; directory c:\programme\; no more files; filenamesinformation
(repeats the last one with directories like c:\programme\ati technologies, c:\programme\kaspersky\, c:\programme\microsoft sql server\..., which brings the question why ultravnc queries directories of programs like kaspersky or ms-sql-server)
winvnc.exe; unlock; c:\programme\ultravnc\ultravnc.ini; range not locked; offset: 0 length: -1

in case anyone is interested in the complete logfile, here it is:

I have this issue as well.

I am the ADMIN account, I save as described.

The system seems to generate an invisible pop-up dialog that says "you've chosen winlogin but no authdll" or something similar...

Any thoughts??
Oh, this is a 64 bit 'upgrade' - upgraded from 32 bit 1.5.3 by copying the 64 bit files and installing the 64 bit driver as per the instructions.
