Save MS Logon info in .vnc file

Postby peskypescado » 2005-07-31 16:33

Is it possible (nevermind the security) to save the MS Logon username and password in a .vnc file so I can double click to connect to another machine on my local network setup to use MS Logon without entering the connection information?

Thanks,
pesky

Is it possible to reconsider? I understand the security risks but there are times when it's not as big of a security risk. For example, if you store the .vnc files in a folder with ACL's to only allow you access. If someone gets access to the files, they've already breached security enough.

How about if it is encrypted when saved to the .vnc file? It's really not any less secure than saving the regular VNC password to the .vnc file. Either way, someone gains access to the remote computer.

Can't it be implimented with a warning? Let the admins decide for themselves how secure they need to be for their particular situation?

I'm considering implementing something discussed in Automatic Login to the UVNC-Server
This will take your windows logon credentials and feed it to the VNC auth.
Should cover a lot (most ?) of the cases.

While that would be awesome, it won't solve the problem for Admins who need to use alternate credentials when logging into a remote VNC server.

For example, if I'm at home on my XP box, and the viewer passes my home/steveb credentials, those will not be accepted by the domain computer at the other end.

This is where it would come in very handy to be able to supply a username/password but save it in the .vnc file in a secured folder on my hard drive.

I know, we ask the world, don't we. =D
