Using MSLOGONII from Domain to Workgroup

Post by redndahead »

Here is the situation. I want to use MSLOGON II. One computer is on a domain the other is in a workgroup. They are all on the same network.

Viewer -> Server Auth Type Works?
DOMAIN -> Workgroup MSLOGON YES
DOMAIN -> Workgroup MSLOGON II NO
Workgroup -> DOMAIN MSLOGON II YES

I need DOMAIN -> Workgroup using MSLOGON II to work.

They are all WINXP Prof SP2. Ports opened or firewall turned off.

For log-in I've tried computername\UID, UID@computername, UID, none of these have worked.

UVNC 1.01 and UVNC 1.02 have not worked.

Is it possible?

The machine with the viewer is of no interest regarding MS-Logon (I or II).
If the computer with the UltraVNC server is in a workgroup, you need to specify an account on the local machine.
E. g. the computer is "MyComputer" with an account "Alice", you have to use "MyComputer\Alice" to log in.
Just "Alice" should also work.
Make sure that you have configured this user or a group that this user is a member of for MS-Logon.

Please check C:\Windows\winvnc-authssp.log
If the user is not authenticated, there's a problem with username/password.
If the user is not authorized, the access groups for MS-Logon are not configured appropriately.

I have tried all of thiese I get that the user is not Authenticated. The only difference between these machines is one is on the domain the other is not. I know I am using the right username and password.

I have used computer\user, user, user@computer, and all have not worked. I have used the local administrators group and have added the user manually. Does anyone have the same situation with going from a Domain computer to a Workgroup computer using MSLOGON II? Does it work for you?

Just to confirm I switched workgroup machine from MSLOGON II to MSLOGON I and added the administrators group and marked it local.

When connecting from the Domain Machine to the Workgroup Machine it worked fine. So it definitely has something to do with connecting from a Domain Machine to a Workgroup Machine using MSLOGON II.

Figured it out. It was the ForceGuest setting. For some reason I thought it was only required for XP Home and not Pro. It seems that when you are on the domain ForceGuest doesn't have to be 0, but when you are on a workgroup it is required to be 0 for MSLOGON II to work.

Thanks for your help anyway,
