SC Tutorial

Post by jbraum »

I'm spam new to the UltraVNC. I would like to have to be able to login to client computer and work remotely on that computer. SC seems to be a solution. Is there a easy newbie tutorial for setting this up?

Thanks

If you want to actually log in remotely.

SC isnt for you.. SC must be initiated at the host (Server) machine.

If you are looking for remote control software (No matter where the computer is) without having to go to the console. Check out Ultr@VNC RC_18 and RC_19_5. Both of these programs are pretty good and they have a really good documented area (Granted not for RC_19_5, but it still pretty much applies).

dont know where to download these from?

Check out the news and announcements forum.

So if I want to login into my mother-in-laws computer to help her she would need to install ultravnc as a server so that I can login and assist her?

IN your situation I would recommend UltraVNC SC. All you would have to do is host your customizable file on a website or email it to them.

Jeff,

You are correct on that.. but since you arent trying to actually log into the computer remotely, moreover assist with someone already logged in SC will be the best option for you.

You were kind of vauge so I didnt know what you meant by log into a client computer and work remotely. Some people mean no matter if the client is at the workstation, some mean only when they are there.

SC will only work if it is user initiated - which is nice for those that dont like remote access, they control it. IT is customized by you.

Here is a brief overview of what you should do next.

Go to the website rudi suggested -
Follow along, and create a custom app.

If you do not have a static IP address look into some sort of noip.com or dyndns for your dhcp'd ip and it will keep it the same with a hostname. This way you can package one app and no matter what IP you have it will work for you.

After you have that all done you can help anyone on the internet with a simple 600K app you send them (you can configure it to auto conect to you also) they dont have to install, but run a simple program.

Ok cool I get it. What do I do to auto connect? And this would be my ip?

[HOST]
Internet support
-connect xx.xx.xx.xx:5500 -noregistry

[HOST]
Internet support encryption
-plugin -connect xx.xx.xx.xx:5500 -noregistry

xx=ip

Thanks

Thanks
if your connecting over the net.

just use the internet support encryption host setting
and if you dont want them to select you and you want them to directly connect, check out the web page for some syntax...

but yes you have it all right... go to dyndns or noip.com and get yourself a static IP that will never change..

put your hostname in as csrelic.dyndns.org

it will then resolve to your ip address and you will be good.. of course make your own "alias" up.

Couple of SC information items missing...

Post by scottwilkins »

OK, what do I run on my machine in order for the remote user to run the SC client? Does the server need to be loaded, or the viewer?

Is the 5500 port number fixed? If I change it in the txt file where do I change it on my end?

run the viewer in listen mode

thats all.

but.
I cant get SC to work over the net right now... I think it has to be something trivial..

syntax for viewer is -
"C:\Program Files\UltraVNC\vncviewer.exe" -listen

should be in your start-program-ultravnc-viewer-run viewer in listen mode.

SC usage / troubleshooting

Post by tfql »

Hi,

I am trialing SC and I do not seem to be able to connect to the server. I have tested IP connectivity and once I launch SC I get a pop-up windows asking wether I want to accept the connection.

Once I say yes to accept connection, the screen stays the same and on the SC machine the icon which was on the taskbar disappears.

Both machines are Windows XP Pro with SP2 installed. I have enabled access through the Windows Firewall.

Any suggestions? :P
Thanks

SC doesnt give an option for you to accept or deny connections. Are you talking about the UltraVNC server option that querys the window? If so this isnt the right area.
