single-click uvnc

Post by tedpenner »

I have gotten the UVNC SC tool working by putting a local ip into the helpdesk.txt file. That is to say that the trouble I am now having is with respect to internet as it now does work locally.

The port scanner I use to determine if the correct port 5500 is actually forwarded and open, (http://www.canyouseeme.org/) reports that it is not.

To complicate matters, I have both a DSL wireless modem/router called 2wire, as well as a Linksys VOIP/router WRP200 through which I must pass. I have tried setting the tcp ports of both to 5500 as recommended and am still not having any luck. All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi,
First, which comes first in the internet's path, the 2Wire or the Linksys VPN router?

(Internet) -> 2Wire -> Linksys -> Intended machine?

If I'm correct in my assumption of the data path, you have a few options.
The first step is figure out the Linksys' "internet" IP address (Linksys config -> Status -> Internet IP Address, not the one listed as local. Unless you use a different IP range locally, it should be something like 192.168.xxx.xxx). Then go into the 2Wire's configuration and see if you can setup a DMZ to the Linksys based on the Linksys' IP addy. From there, go into the Linksys config and forward port 5550 to your intended machine.

The second option will involve the use of upnp. While I don't have experience with SC and uPNP I'm under the impression that it's possible and in your case would probably make everything much easier for you in the long run.

Just curious, what do you use the Linksys router for? Connecting into work's hardware based VPN? Otherwise it seems like you're adding an unneeded complication to the mix that doesn't need to be there. Additionally, many hardware VPN solutions can be alternatively connected into using software emulation, so again that Linksys seems to be causing you unnecessary headaches...

Hope I've helped, post back if you need additional help.

Peace
Sean

And you'll need to recompile an SC with the public address again. Encoding the local address and expecting to be able to use it across the Internet is never going to work.
