Port clarification for sc via internet connection

Post by gregp123 »

Hi, I have read tons and tons of information to figure this out and I am easily successful via LAN connections. However I am still having trouble with internet connections using sc custom.

I'm using viewer 1.0.95 in listening mode (listening port 5500).

I have forwarded port 5500 on my router to my viewer host ip (specifically I have configured on my router all incoming TCP connections with destination port 5500 forwarded to my viewer listening ip address).

In the helpdesk.txt, I have a no-ip.org host address for my non-static ip, and it says "-connect [myaddress].no-ip.org:5500 -noregistry"

I can't figure out why it's not working. When the user clicks it, the tray icon just disappears after 20 seconds or so.

Can someone please help with advice? Do I also need to forward ports 5800 and 5900? I'm not sure what a repeater is -- do I need that? Is there something else I'm missing? I don't care about ssl.

Also I'm using SC 2009 compiler online -- is that correct? That is a confusing page becuase I don't understand what SCII, or all that is.

Thanks very much.
Greg

sc ii use the repeater, for your connection is not necessary.

sc2009 ok
[myaddress].no-ip.org:5500
I hope this ip is been registered and activated and running on the vncviewer computer.

Thank you. Yes it is registered and activated (ie. it is running on the viewer computer). What about ports? Only 5500? Or also 5800, 5900?

Actually, I just tested port 5500,5800 and 5900 from canyouseeme.org port checker tool, and neither of these ports are reachable, even with my viewer listening. Hmmm. I guess it's my router port forward settings then. Would you agree? I guess I need to keep messing with my router?

Thanks again.
