How SC works?

Post by zonkzen »

I am trying to figure out what's the idea behind SC. There are no sources of the build-SC available on the website - only c++ sources of the whole package. Am I right thinking that what the program does is unpack itself on execution and basically calling winvnc.exe with -connect (or with optional -plugin which makes it look for rc4.key) switch?
If so, is that ok for me (license and common sense question!) to do the same but with .net to be able to fix some annoyances like look'n'feel, ability to synchronise destination addresses online (without repeater!) or doing some custom tasks before and after connecting ?

Yes, pretty much. UltraVNC SC is also a service whereby the remote UltraVNC server will custom-compile a signed SC executable for you. Yes, when it unpacks it is, more or less, unzipping itself and executing a version of UltraVNC.

For those of us who prefer to control all aspects of the custom-compilation process, alternative projects such as SCPrompt and ChunkVNC have sprung up over time.

Yes, you can do whatever you like as long as you abide by the software's distribution licenses (primarily GPL at present).
