Repeater Feature Request

Post by nolazabal »

Would it be possible to implement a password or some kind of authentication between the cline or viewers and repeater to ensure that only authorized clients and viewers are able to connect.

The reason I ask this because I feel if I leave a repeater open other people may use it as well.

Thank you

You can restrict access based upon IP address when configuring the repeater. Have a look at http://www.uvnc.com/addons/repeater.html.

that is good but not what was looking for, when giving remote support you don’t know the ip address for the remote computer nor sometimes where you will be to give this remote support

Restricting ip address will work o some limited cases

Thank you
If you use the repeater in mode II, you only forward port 550x from the internet, and that way just viewers on your lan can use it.

another idea
since repeater 1.0.4
you can use new feature "Only allow ID number"
UltraVNC 1.0.9.6.1 (built 20110518)
OS Win: xp home + vista business + 7 home
only experienced user, not developer

Repeater Feature Request

Authentication is built into the VNC server rather than the Repeater. UltraVNC requires that you create a password for each VNC server. See http://uvnc.com/features/authentication.html

If you always use UltraVNC, you can do much better though - use a plugin to encrypt communication from the outside world to the internal network. See http://msrc4plugin.home.comcast.net

If you use a plugin, you should ensure that all internal computers and your laptop use the same version of UltraVNC, the same plugin, and the same supporting files. Recommended "best practice": don't install these onto any other computer, and use different keys for each company (if you support more than one network).
