step-by-step for proxy installation

Post by horos22 »

hey all,

Could someone be so kind as to post a step-by-step guide as to setting up SCIII for use in running ultravnc over a proxy?

I have a particularly nasty proxy that I want to tunnel through; it allows for both 443 and 80 port traffic, but goes through port 8080, and will not allow external traffic through any other port.

Now, I went to:

http://sc.uvnc.com/SCIII

and notice that there are only binaries there - no setup scripts, no documentation, no usage. :| In the forums I found thread 6110,
but found the closest thing to a HOWTO in the following statement:

"Using SCIII... you can set up an SSL repeater server (Distributor5.exe) on your home PC and run WinVNC with a reverse connectin to repeater with ID ("-id 12345 etc"). With -autoreconnect parameter to keep a connection to the repeater, this should set up the server."

That's fine, but detail would be nice:

1) what are the exact steps for downloading the files in the SCIII url? Do you need to download them all, or some, and where do you put them?

2) What's the command line for running WinVNC Server with a reverse connection to repeater? What other arguments besides -id 12345 are there?

3) what other commands do you need to run in order to make the repeater/winvnc command work?

4) is there a way to automatically take the proxy connection information from IE fo use with the viewer using the proxy? I noticed that, for example, the cygwin setup program does this fine, don't know why scIII should be any different.

In short, is there a step-by-step guide for using SCIII with a proxy? It would be very cool if someone who has the same setup (proxy through a firewall with only one port outgoing) could walk through the steps they took in real time in getting it working, and then report back to the rest of us these steps, not omitting any detail...

And finally, I noticed that Distributer5 segfaults on my machine. Is there any idea as to how long it will be before UltraVNC is out of beta?

Thanks,

Ed
