Multiple remote and a local user ...

Post by GwynPugh »

I am running the latest version of UltraVNC v1.0.2 on my main machine which has a number of accounts all who are Computer Administrators.

I have set UltraVNC to start as a system service at system startup on this machine. I want a local user to be able to log on to the machine, even if I am remotely logged on to the the UltraVNC server using Ultra Viewer.

XP's remote desktop will allow that, apart from the fact it will ask to throw off the previous user. In other words, with Remote Desktop, I can be working remotely as if I were logged in on the machine itself, but the main machine screen is still showing the XP log in screen. A local user can then log on from this screen , but as I said, a message box asks if they want to throw the remote user off the machine.

I was hoping that UltraVNC would have a similar action, but would allow me to stay logged on when a local user logs on.

As far as I can see, what is displayed on my UltraVNC viewer window is mirrored on the server screen (I have been unable to get the screen blanking to work). The XP log on screen is not available to the local user!

Is what I want to do possible? That is, to log on from the remote machine without commandering the main machine.

I read through post [post=40668][/post]. It seems that the Terminal Server patch listed at http://sala.pri.ee/terminal-server-patch/ only works if you're not on a domain. What do you do if you are on a domain and the 'server' you want to connect to is Windows XP x64, with multiple simultaneous connections with unique desktops for local and remote user.?
