Newbie using ultra VNC to connect to other PCs

Post by nemesisfated »

Hi,

First off sorry if there is a topic here that I have missed. I am new to using UltraVNC and want to set it up on several computers. I have read all the setup documents from the uvnc.com website on setting up, all the document that you folks have provided here for us in the forums and still cant seem to connect to the PCs i need to connect to.

I have a single PC behind a linksys router and the other 2 PCs that I want to connect to are also behind a linksys router.

I read the documentation about opening the ports and creating exceptions for windows firewall and used all the nice links in the "Debug Failed to connect to server" document.

I can run a loopback on my loopback address and if i use my private internal IP of 192.168.1.1 I have used the portqueryUI tool to check status of my 5900 port and recive messages of listening if I use my internal or loopback.

Trying the same with my public IP has given me a message of "Filtered"
I signed up for a hostname using DynDNS service and still recieve a message of "Filtered"

I also have McAfee Virus Scan and the Security center installed. Disabling all the processes associated with McAfee still has had no effect. Can anyone tell me if there is something I have missed? Any possible solutions would be helpful, as I am thoroughly stumped at this point...

Thanks for your assistance in advance!

Are you testing using your public IP address from another computer on the same LAN? Some routers don't allow this.

Did you set up port forwarding in you router?

Sorry i'm not proficient in this, but I was testing my public IP from my own PC with the loopback enabled. I was only able to establish a connection by using my private IP.

any suggestions would be appreciated! thanks for your reply.

What does grc.com's port probe, https://www.grc.com/x/portprobe=5900, show?

Did you set up port forwarding in you router?

I suggest to use easy solution and won't need to open any port at both side (local and remote)
and easy to remember remote server name and know whish remote server of your list is online.
