Server side: Where are the apps in my Gnome task bar?

Post by Westbrook »

I have a Linux fedora desktop in my office at work, running VNC server.

I have the viewer running on my laptop here at home.

I can connect just fine to the VNC server on the Linux desktop at work, but I can't see any of the active apps on my task bar! If I minimiza an app window, I can't restore it, since I cannot see it in the taskbar.

The taskbar does appear to be there at the bottom of the Gnome screen, but it's blank.

HELP!!

OK, I asked my brother-in-law, who is a Linux propeller-head extrodinaire, and he tells me that Gnome does not support more than one session at a time.

My problem was that I had left a session running on my desktop at work, so I cannot access the taskbar.

I need to kill all the Gnome session processes, then VNC to my desktop at work and I should be ok.

I'll let you all know.
