Connection Problems- Different IP Addresses?

Post by brianbh »

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to get UltraVNC to work between my computer and my father’s computer. Both are currently set up as with a direct DSL connection from the modems to computers. We also both have the same firewall program installed with the same program configurations. My ISP is Verizon and his is Bellsouth.

When he dials into my computer, he can get in without any problem. However, when I dial in to his, I am unable to connect.

On my computer, the IP address is the same when I check www.whatismyip.com and ipconfig/all.

However, on his computer, www.whatismyip.com gives us a 72.148.xx.xx IP address, and ipconfig/all gives us a different 192.168.x.xxx IP address. I have tried dialing in using each of these addresses, and neither will work.

We called Bellsouth teach support (his ISP) and they said I should be able to dial into his computer using the 72.148.xx.xx IP address, but they really couldn’t give me a good explanation as to why the ipconfig/all was giving us a different address.

If someone would please let me know the best way to troubleshoot this, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Brian

With all verizon router boxes they have firewalls built in. On both pcs are do you have the internet address or are you getting 192.x.x.x on one of them.

By the looks of your post your fathers machine is doing port forwarding so what you have to is go into his bell south router and open port 5900 and forward to the ip 192.168.x.x that his machine is using and that should do it. If you are using the java viewer open port 5800 as well
