Encryption Plugins

I'm wondering if the encryption plugins would work to make the connection secure when one simply remotes to his home computer. Would it be comparable to a vpn tunnel?

It uses either 40bit or 128 encyption so it is pretty safe ir you choose to use the plugins..;)
