SC question

I want to deploy UltraVNC SC and am a little confused as to the purpose of the Dynamic DNS Setup requirement (see singleclick_Stepbystep.pdf)

My PC will be the viewer (behind a router with a a fixed IP) so can I take it I do not need to worry about this aspect And what exactly is its purpose

If you have a fixed public IP, then there is no need for DynDNS setup. If you are referring to a static private IP (192.* or 10.*), that's another story.

Are you providing support to them or are they providing support (running the viewer)?
If you're providing support to them, they may be prompted by their firewall to allow the EXE to access the internet. Once they allow it, you've built the routing to your static public IP into the EXE so they don't need to do anything to their router or with DynDNS.

Actually I was thinking of some people I know who might want to also run the Viewer but may not be behind a router and with either a fixed or transient IP address Can I take it if is fixed then nothing special is needed for them but if transient they need DYNDNS or similar

Also I have discovered that there is a product on this site called PCHelpware which looks very similar to uVNC Not sure though of the pros and cons of one product versus the other Can you enlighten me Also is the SC server the same for this or is there a alternative

Without the router, they wouldn't need to set up port forwarding (EXE will point right to their machine as opposed to the router which then needs to forward the information on to a particular machine behind the router).

SC is based on UltraVNC. PcHelpWare was rewritten from the ground up. Some users have mentioned that their connection was faster with SC, but I found PcHelpWare easier to configure and didn't experience the same slowness seen by other users. You can try out PcHelpWare without any port forwarding on either end using [topic=9663]"Zero Configuration" PcHelpWare_viewer Setup[/topic]. That post configures PcHelpWare using a public repeater and you'll certainly get a faster connection using your own repeater or using a direct connection, but it's a real easy way to get a feel for it.
