UltraVNC 64bit and Win7 Home Premium 64bit, local network

Post by modprobe »

Hi,

I just installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 on 2 computers at my house. I ahead of time that Home Premium does not have an RDP server included, just an RDP client. That's fine because I can use UltraVNC.

Well, I downloaded the latest stable 64 bit version of UVNC, installed it on both computers, and cannot connect to and from any of them.

I've messed with MS logon settings, VNC password only, and even went into Windows Firewall and explicitly opened the needed ports. Still cannot connect. I also tried connecting via browser using port 5800. I've computer and also tried just the IP. Nada! The attempts just time out.

This is all on a local area network and won't be connecting to my boxes from outside the house at any time.

Please help.

Odd; sounds like you did everything right. (Don't bother with the MS Logon settings though; you don't really need them.)

I would try pinging each machine from the other, and then telnetting from one to the other on ports 5800 and 5900 to see if you get a response. You could also do a netstat -an to make sure the VNC server is listening.

If you've every had other versions of VNC or other firewalls installed that could be a problem too.

I have the same problem. I am trying to use uvnc to connect to my main work computer which runs windows 7 home prem. 64 bit. I opened the ports tried testing it and nothing. I installed uvnc to both my laptops and brought them to work and tried uvnc and they worked. both laptop runs win7 ultimate 32 bit. port works fine for every computer in the office except for the 64 bit windows 7 home prem.. I followed the portforwarding.com instructions to make a static ip, created the port forwarding rules, setup the uvmc and no luck. I noticed in my router though that when i click on the connected computers tab, every computer on my network is listed except for the 64bit computer. Weird thing is it connects to the internet fine, and when i cmd ipconfig, it has an ip. I even have a linksys ip phone connected to the same line as the 64 bit computer and I can see the phone ip in the router but can't see the computer ip(its not because of the ip phone because i have the same setup with 3 other computers and i can see the computer and the ip phone). I am at a total loss right now cant figure out anything that could be wrong with this machine. I even turned off all the firewalls to this machine and still no luck. I tried to ping the ip and it time out. tried to check the port and it says port not open or unreachable. But all the other computers on the network says port is open. I have a hp pavilion m9340f

:(** I hope somebody can help us, and thanks to anyone in advance
