Windows 7 and Kubuntu 10.04 no conenction

Post by dalamar »

Hi,

I have read the FAQ's and they were not helpful for the problem I am having. I did a search and got this error"Could not delete old search id sessions

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1153 Got a packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes"

So I am here.
I am running windows 7 (All firewalls off) on my laptop.
My home computer is running Kubuntu 10.04.
I have a Linksys wrt54gl running dd-wrt.

On the router I have forwarded all traffic on port 5903 to the proper computer at the same port.

On the Linux box I have x11vnc installed and listening on port 5903.

On the windows box I use PuTTY to connect to the router. That works fine.

When I try to use UltraVNC to connect, no matter if I connect to the LAN IP, the WAN IP, or localhost I immediately get connection failed.

From the PuTTY dialog box I can ping the computer just fine.
I tried earler with tightvnc and was getting an invalid protocol error.

Any suggestions you can make will be greatly apperciated.

Thanks

if you have x11vnc server on kubuntu
i suggest you use ssvnc viewer (Enhanced TightVNC Viewer) on your windows 7 optimized for connect to linux/unix/osx
http://www.karlrunge.com/x11vnc/ssvnc.html#download

or

try pure windows
ultra vncviewer 1.0.9.4 a lot of bugs are solved
start install and select viewer only
x32bit

x64bit
http://sc.uvnc.com/download/click.php?id=76

or
just update vncviewer.exe or/and winvnc.exe

Thanks for the suggestion. I would like to think that it makes some headway as I noticed something a little different.

I connect through PuTTY and all just fine. Then when I try to connect in, if I use localhost or my public IP and the right port it immediately fails. But, when I use the computers IP on the network and the port it takes a little longer like it is trying to connect and then fails to connect to server.

I tried the ssh/ssl version of vnc and got nothing with ssh. with ssl I got
an error fetching certificate.

i suggest you read both faq of SSVNC and x11vnc

http://www.karlrunge.com/x11vnc/faq.html#faq

http://www.karlrunge.com/x11vnc/ssvnc.html#quickstart

Q-51: How can I tunnel my connection to x11vnc via an encrypted SSH channel from Windows using an SSH client like Putty?

Thanks for the suggestion redge. They did help a little but still nothing.

If I choose localhost:0 now it tries to connect and takes longer but still comes back failed to connect.

The new release did not change things. I am 98% sure this is not an issue with UltraVNC. I am just not sure where to look. I have been checking my router for connections on the port but I am not seeing anything in the logs. I am not sure if I don't establish a connection if it will show up in the log or not.
