[solved] Connect with dyndns setup

Post by ericyao »

Hi, I'm new to uvnc. I have setup my free dyndns account (xxxxx.dyndns-remote.com). When I type in the this address, I can see my modem(ZyXel Q100) setup page in the browser. It is connected to a wireless router (Linksys WRT120N) and my devices(PCs, game console, iPods) are all connected through wireless network.
Could someone with similar settings give me some advice on how to control any one of the PCs through Dyndns and UVNC?
Thanks

FAQ port forward
[topic=3859][/topic]

remark:
a lot of low cost wireless could not be used until user log in to their desktop
so unpossible to catch welcome screen/logon screen even if vnc server is already running as service system (start with windows system before user log on to their desktop)

for catch welcome screen/logon , uvnc must be installed as service
right click on winvnc, install service

Thanks for your help. I can access PCs from each other within LAN by only enter the computer name. And I enabled forwarding port 5900 to one of the PCs on the router. How do I configure the modem? Do I forward the port to the router first?

And what host name should I put in the viewer if I want to access from outside? Is it myname.dyndns-remote.com:5900

modem is a bridge (should do nothing)
router, only this part need port forwarding.

like the example of FAQ
port forward every computer you need to different port on router
on the router, you can only input the internal name like IP or hostname but NOT fully qualified domain name (FQDN) like below except on vncviewer
some router allow internal test loopback using external public name.

myname.dyndns-remote.com:5900
myname.dyndns-remote.com:5901
myname.dyndns-remote.com:5902

another example:
http://www.uvnc.com/onlinehelp/11.html

do you have a url for the zyxel Q100 datasheet ?
I did not find it at Zyxel Europe

Thanks, it works :)
On the router configuration page. There's a DDNS setup. I entered my account info from dyndns. Just wondering if that's what helped making the connection.

Just as you said, there should be nothing done with the modem. It might be the previous problem I had. I'm in the states. ZyXel Q100 is just given by my ISP(Qwest). I can't find that on the manufacturer's website either, but it works just fine
