UltraVNC version 1.0.9.6 with Linux?

Post by alexschink »

I like to try UltraVNC version 1.0.9.6 but I am not sure if there is a system specification to download this product.I have Toshiba loptop and the OS is Linux.I want to download this for personal use with my wife, my wife is in UK and i am here in california. She is not a computer literate she doesnt know anything about the computer other than turning on,surfing the web, sending email and shut down, she only knew basics that is why everytime she needs help with the computer we need to spend almost 3 hours talking over the phone,Then i come up with the idea of getting this product so i can remotely access her computer even we are miles and oceans away.
Please send me links where i can download if it is possible with Linux.Thank you!

Hi Alex,

I'm afraid it's not possible to use the server-side of UVNC with Linux. However, you should mention which OS your wife is using. Does she use Windows or also Linux? If she uses Linux, you are probably going to be best off by configuring her router to expose SSH on the internet. Make sure to use it with key, not password (it's more secure this way). Then use SSH to connect to her and tunnel X11 through it. Another alternative for Linux is http://freenx.berlios.de/

If you are using Linux on your end and she is using Windows or Mac, VNC is still an option, though. Although details depend on what she runs. So in conclusion: more info is needed ;)
