Open DNS

Post by optimizer »

Forgive an elementary question but I could not find anything related in FAQ.

It has been recommended that I use Open DNS on my router and then set up the appropriate filters.

Will this have any negative effect on connecting to a remote computer?

Thanks,
B

No, it won't. Your DNS provider has almost nothing to do with it.

But be aware that some people experience slowdowns when using OpenDNS, largely because remote web sites try to outguess things and end up sending data from servers close to OpenDNS's location rather than close to the user's own ISP.

Still, for VNC purposes you're usually attaching directly to a VNC server by its DNS name or IP address, so OpenDNS will have little or no effect regardless.
