Login Rejected but log says authenticated.

Post by PatrickT »

This is a tad frustrating and I am hopeing for some sage advice here to move this forward, I have spent too much time on this machine as it is. When myself (admin) or another IT worker (admin) connect to this machine it says login rejected. So, I went to the log files to see why.
user XXX@XXX.com is authenticated, access granted is 0x60000
Thu Nov 03 16:24:50 2011 - CUPSD2: Access is 0, user XXX is authenticated, access granted is 0x60000
Fri Nov 04 07:40:05 2011 - CUPSD2: Access is 0, user XXX is authenticated, access granted is 0x60000
Fri Nov 04 07:44:02 2011 - CUPSD2: Access is 0, user YYY is authenticated, access granted is 0x60000
Fri Nov 04 07:44:25 2011 - CUPSD2: Access is 0, user YYY is not authenticated, access granted is 0x0
Fri Nov 04 09:12:56 2011 - CUPSD2: Access is 0, user YYY is authenticated, access granted is 0x60000
Sure looks like some in the FAQ however I did all the Reg tweaks on the force guest and I ran gpedit and made sure there was nothing in the denying users. It is also resolving to the domain in that log so it knows where to go hence the authenticated the access is 0 though. UNLESS....I log on as administrator with the local PW.
Fri Nov 04 10:54:06 2011 - CUPSD2: Access is 1, user administrator is authenticated, access granted is 0x60003
So what gives, why is the domain identities authenticated however they are not allowed access while the local admin is? This has to be something simple and I have uninstalled and re-installed and rebooted this machine also.

XP PRO service pack 3 ver 2002
I could really use some help here - thanks!

This may be something directly for Rudi and Sam to look at. I'll poke Rudi and point him to this topic.

Well, it the strangeness continues. I am not sure why this would happen, however the Symantec network protection shows an attack on this machine from the machine that I am connecting to.

That is a first, not sure why this would be happening. Other than that, the authentication still fails with our user name and PW.

Thanks!

Seems to be resolved, well adding the Domain Admin to the local control group for VNC allowed authentication. However, it looks like the AD was messed up possibly making this happen. The machine had VNC installed when it was added to the domain, then I uninstalled and removed the machine from the domain. However, that was just done from the desktop System Properties menu - and the old machine account wasn't deleted manually from the domain. That might have been the issue all along. Just an FYI on this, as I am just wiping the machine clean and starting over on this as the way this machine interacts with the domain is wonky and it is better to just delete this install and start over.

Although there were no replies, I hope this might help someone else.
