I have a Mid-2010 Mac Pro running the most current OS X. I have remote management setup which allows for me to have VNC screen sharing. I have a computer at a remote site that I am trying to connect to this Mac. After a lot of experimenting, I finally did get the connection made however, I have several issues.
1) I am presented with a grey screen with a target icon and my username on it with a red checkmark. I double click on it and it does nothing.
2) I have three monitors on the Mac and I can't see how to select one of them specifically. I know it sees all of the monitors as in normal display mode, I can use the scroll bar and move back and forth between them, but since I can't seem to log into the Mac, I get any further with the connection. if I do a display with scaling, it displays all three monitors side by side, but I just can't get any further.
I am close, but can't get it all going. Anyone out there that can help?

Connection to Mac OS X from XP Pro
Re: Connection to Mac OS X from XP Pro
OSX Lion is a disaster with most VNC programs -- it almost seems as if they purposely crippled it for that purpose.
You will probably be better off running the latest (updated for Lion) versions of OSX Vines Server or RealVNC server or x11vnc on the OSX side, and disabling the OS's built-in so-called VNC support.

Re: Connection to Mac OS X from XP Pro
Naw, there is a bug in OSX Lion's handling of the login. You have to authenticate as a user on the target machine - ignoring the "screen sharing password".
I found this out from Jolly's Fast VNC. Its documented right on the first page for the product! I guess he got a few phone calls.
I have not figured out how to do the same thing with uVNC. If its possible.

If you don't do this, you get exactly what you described: textured window and non-working loginLion users: If you are connecting to a Lion machine, make sure to use Mac Authentication (hold down the alt/option key when clicking connect to reselect the authentication scheme).
Lion has a bug with normal VNC authentication.
