can't connect to other PC in my LAN. Why?

Post by shaihkritzer »

hi

here's how I make UVNC work at my home:
three PCs
each connected to an ADSL router (two with LAN cable, one via WiFi)
internet connection is up at the router and shared to all LAN and WiFi clients
ADSL ISP has dynamic IP, but a real one. so I can connect via current IP or DynDNS.
I'm using Maemo Linux VNC client to remote control PC when I'm not at home.
It connects via DynDNS and my mobile operator internet connection.
for some reason I can do it with my main PC, but not with the two others.
I used to do so when other 2 PC were not powered up.
but now I need to enter PC#3 (WiFi connected).
all I get is "failed to connect" error. it seems to me that VNC can't find it through my LAN. but why? only one (main) PC is accessible.

I have them as follows:
router: 192.168.1.1
main PC (wire connection): 192.168.1.3
secondary PC (wire): 192.168.1.4
third PC (wireless): 192.168.1.5

when I'm inside my LAN - there's no problem to access each PC.
but when I'm trying to access from outside - only main PC is accessible, in case it's on and VNC is running.
what should I do to access other PCs? is it possible to somehow indicate to which _local_ IP adress I'm trying to connect?

also I've noticed a strange thing: #1 and #2 indicate their local IP adress when I hover over VNC tray icon. but the #3 indicates 127.0.0.1 instead of 192.168.1.5, but it's still accessible from inside LAN.

Simple. (Relatively.)

Set up VNC on the 2nd and 3rd PCs to listen on different ports. At the router you continue to forward port 5900 to PC #1, and forward ports xxxx to PC #2 and yyyy to PC #3.
