Would this work? (relates to "view only")

Post by ammateur »

Hi all

Thanks for this forum, and for your time

I am completely new to VNC, though I have in the past successfully used the built-in RDP (Windows XP) to work from one Windows PC computer to another.

I would like to set up the following:

Can anyone let me know which parts, if any might be problematic?

Install Ultra VNC on my work computer.

Install Screens 2.0 (A VNC Viewer ipad app) on my home ipad.

Have 2 passwords on my work computer Ultra VNC, a view-only one and a full remote access one.

When I'm at home on my Ipad, it should now be possible to either:

1. connect to my work computer with the "View-only" password and be able to see a "live feed" from my work computer as its being used (eg if someone wants to show me something, but without risk of me clicking mouse etc on the ipad and affecting the work computer)

2. connect to my work computer with the "Full Remote access" password and be able to completely "take over" the desktop (for me to work on it when i'm at home)

Specific areas where i think there MAY be problems are:

a. Can passwords work in this way? ie can the same Home ipad connect with 2 different passwords to allow either "View only" or "Full access" without anyone at my Work Computer having to change any settings?

b. When I'm sitting at my home Ipad and remotely working at my work computer, using "Full access", what would the screen in my office be displaying? Is it possible to set it so that it DOESN'T show everything i'm doing ... i could be typing a confidential email and anyone walking past my machine would see that! (on the other hand, when using the "View only" mode, of course i DO need the work computer screen to be displaying in full!)

Or anything else i've not thought of.

Really appreciate your help in advance.
