losing settings

Post by fsboice »

I am a newb at this program, and need some help. I have searched the forums and haven't found anything on this..

I work for a school system and we have ultravnc viewer and server on all of the machines. I go in and set the password and uncheck the disable viewer input. The next day after the computers have restarted vnc loses its settings. Im thinking it may have to do with the Novel system that we are running. Any suggestions on what I can do to make the settings stick?

It looks like you are trying to make changes using a domain admin account.
Vnc run as local system, changes are made as desktop user.
( We need to impersonate the desktop user, else all students would be able to change the settings)
The problem is that when you logon as domain admin and not local admin the service doesn't have
permissions to impersonate the desktop user. Changes are in memory, not saved !

workaround
1) use a local admin account
or
2) make changes while winvnc is started as applicatio.
( without service, we don't need to impersonate the desktop user)
or
3)Use uvnc_settings.exe to make changes
( This require winvnc to be restarted before changes take effect)

If you are using XP, don't forget to uncheck [_] DON't allow in the runas
popup.

All settings are saved in the ultravnc.ini file.
You can copy this file to another pc, no pc depended parts in it.
So, you could crate a ultravnc.ini on your own pc ( refference server) and
distribute this to all pc ( program files /ultravnc/ultravnc.ini)
You don't need to change it local, settings are used when winvnc.exe is restarted.
