connection actively refused

Post by old_nic »

UltraVNC works fine on my LAN from my Windows XP MCE Desktop to Windows XP Professional Laptop. The reverse does not work, the connection is actively refused. I can ping the Desktop from the laptop, but I cannot telnet. Using the same Desktop machine(it dual boots) running Windows XP Professional, with all the settings the same as far as I can see UltraVNC works perfectly in both directions, as does telnet. I have tried turning off the firewall on MCE, this makes no difference to the lack of VNC connection, or to the inability to telnet. The same ports are in use throughout.

To summarize

Windows Prof Laptop -> Windows MCE Desktop - connection refused, ping works, telnet fails
Windows Prof Laptop -> Windows XP Prof Desktop - OK
WIndows Prof Desktop -> Windows Prof Laptop - OK
WIndows MCE Desktop -> Windows Prof Laptop - OK

All the services appear to be running on all machines

Any ideas?

Problem solved. I restarted all of the normal services on the Windows MCE machine and it worked. Possibly one service was disabled, but as I restarted them all at once I missed which one it was.
