Other way to connect through Internet?

Post by Bear »

Hello,

I'm pretty new to VNC, I have used TeamViewer before.. I'd like to know how it is possible for me to get the IP address of the server (which is Dynamic IP) so that I can log in through the viewer? Is there some other way without needing to use a dns? Can't I just set up a username and password in the server VNC so that I connect with the same username and password in my Viewer VNC? It shouldn't be so hard to accomplish this, this is why I'm asking here, because it must be much more simple than what I'm thinking, and since I'm a beginner, well.. And also I couldn't find anything like this in the FAQ that wouldn't be using a DNS...

Thanks!

This is like asking...If someone change his GSM number, but i know his name... can i still phone him ?
Yes, if you use some service to lookup the new phone number.

So you need a service...
Like dyndsn ( this connect a dynamic ip with a fix name)
You can also try uvnc2me, this use our own access servers to link names with ip addresses.

Yes, I understand that it's hard without a static IP or assigning a dns to the dynamic IP. However isn't there a way that the server when connected to the internet will report it's IP to say UltraVNC HeadQuarters (lol) and therefore the viewer can connect to UltraVNC HQ (just using a name, obviously this is not what I mean exactly) and see the available servers from his username?

I'm not sure if I was clear enough trying to explain this, I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

Yes, uvn2me use a "headquarter server"...
uvnc2me tell the server hi, me name is jonny and i'm current using ip a.b.c.d
The viewer ask the server... do you know jonny and can you give me his ip address.

The problem with vnc is that it need to follow the rfb protocol.
This protocol doesn't support the use of an extra server.
Yes, it would be possible but then you would loose the rfb compat.

I understand. However for uvnc2me work I would have to be close to the server so that I could view the access code and use it in the viewer, would I not? I was hoping to find something closer to the way TeamViewer works, registering a pc to a determined account and being able to view it in my dropdown list of pcs and access it without the need of an access code, or perhaps just using a master password. Is that possible?
