using uvnc for windows administrator tasks

Postby xilophante » 2016-07-20 10:06

DISCLAIMER: I've read + searched the FAQ and did not find what I was looking for, which it doesn't mean it wasn't there, it only means *I* could not find it!

Hi everybody,

I've just installed UltraVNC_1_2_11_X64_Setup.exe on a Win 10 Home French laptop.

I run the "UltraVNC Server" on the target computer, then I connect to it from my laptop, my objective being that to perform on the machine I control any task with no restriction, even installing new software.

Well, whenever I install a piece of software (typically double clicking on a .exe file), immediately after running the .exe I do not see, on my controlling PC, the small window that instead appears on the controlled PC as a consequence of me launching the file.
Hence I cannot perform the next step required by the installation on my own, I still need somebody to attend the controlled PC and to click along the various steps of the installation.

I know that "viewer" means "to see" and not necessarily also "to perform", but I was hoping that UVNC allows also to perform administrator's tasks without any attendant.

Even looking at the uvnc registry I could not find any word that would solicit in my mind the possibility to enable what I want.

I've even run the UltraUVNC Server as Administrator on the controlled PC, but it was of no help.

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Best Rgds,

UAC protection, only exe also runnning in elevated mode can inject keypresses.
1)instal winvnc.exe as service
2)You need to start winvnc.exe in elevated mode ( "runas admin", right click exe)
Remark: An admin account is not the same as "runas admin", like root is not the same as a sudo root on linux.

Hello everybody,
I have experienced the nearly same issue as Xilos. We used UVNC to do administrative tasks on some Windows-Clients. Now on Windows 10, everytime an UAC-Dialog appears, I am "kicked out of the session". I figured out, this only happens when the Query Windows is displayed. But this is a feature we would like to use :D
I can see that uvnc_service is running by "System".
I tried the latest UVNC Version in x64 and x86.
I tried to uncheck/check "Allow service to interact with desktop".
I tried to disable Windows Defender via Registry and made sure no other Anti-Virus solution is installed.

I could reproduce this problem on different devices, even on a new notebook with preinstalled windows 10 x64 Pro and on a PC with freshly set up Windows and other programs installed except Intel/Realtek Drivers and UVNC.

Kind Regards

The ultravnc viewer reconnect in background.
The winvnc server desktop part need to run in the visable desktop, uac switch desktops and the server restart himself in the
new visable desktop.
Make sure the reconnect is activated, then it happen in background and you don't need to logon again.
