Connect but blank screen through VPN

Post by mike »

I uninstalled RealVNC and installed Ultr@VNC 1.0.0 RC 11d on WinXP (both client and host) RealVNC worked fine, but I really wanted to use some of the new features UltraVNC has.

I connect to my office computer through VPN (SecureRemote). When I try to connect on UltraVNC, I get the password prompt, type in my password, and the window opens as if it is going to let me take over the host machine... however it is just a black screen. Now... get this... I *am* able to do file transfers!

I tried disabling the video hooks on the host... connecting under all sorts of speed settings... I am definitely using the same versions of UltraVNC on both computers. I can't think of what could be causing this. Is there any reason anyone can think of as to why RealVNC works but UltraVNC does not?

There is a bug.....if a screensaver with different resolution
need passwd to disable, vnc server refuse viewer.

Well I don't have fast switching on, but thanks for the suggestion. First thing I disabled when I installed it. :)

It works now. The only thing I changed was... I saw my computer had some default setting for standby powersave mode. I disabled that today, came home and tried to connect and it works! Stupid windows defaults. I can only assume this fixed it.

I have also heard that if you connect with remote desktop and then later try to VNC, you get the same effect. I've run into that blank screen before, but not taken the time to prove to myself that's my problem.
