Authentication and configuration on 2003 network with XP Pro

Post by Dan2222 »

Hi,

I know this has probably been asked hundreds of times, but I still don't seem to be able to get this right.

I am running a Windows 2003 domain with XP Pro SP3 clients. We have a couple of Vista and Win7 clients, but 95% are XP. I would like to be able to control who can connect to VNC servers on the clients. I have set up a group in AD called "UltraVNCAccess" but I can't get the settings right.

(NOTE: We DON'T install VNC on the servers, only the clients)

The other problems I sometimes have are:
1) Screen doesn't refresh properly, I have to keep clicking the refresh button myself to update the screen.
2) I connect to the PC and log in with no problem, then once windows has loaded I click something and nothing happens. If I hit the refresh the screen nothing changes. (I think, if I remember correctly that the clicks do actually go through to the client but my screen just never updates). I then have to disconnect and reconnect and then it starts working.

Also, when do I need to install the Vista Addon pack and is it only needed on Windows Vista? What about Windows 7 or XP?

I would appreciate if somebody could explain exactly how I need to set this up to solve the problems above.

Thanks in advance,

Daniel
