Connection drops sporadically and won't reconnect

Post by SteveC »

Hi,

I've got a Windows 7 machine currently running Media Centre. I am then using an app on my iPod to remotely control the pc (via Wifi) instead of a remote. When it works, the setup is really good and I'm happy with it. However, it's rarely working at the moment !

When I connect from the iPod, the PC backdrop goes black which confirms the connection is made and I can use WMC perfect. When I close the app on the iPod, the connection to the PC is dropped and the backdrop returns. I get the same behaviour when connecting from my laptop. To me, this confirms the basic settings are OK.

However, more often than not, the iPod won't connect again to the PC once the connection drops. I need to disable / renable wifi on the iPod before it will connect again. Sometimes I'll have to do this every time I connect, other times it will work for days without an issue.

I also get a similar problem using the laptop albeit not so often. The connection will drop sporadically (sometimes seconds, othertimes hours). Again, if I disconnect / reconnect the wifi on the laptop then it fixes the problem.

I've had no luck looking at the log files as, it seems, the connection request isn't even reaching UltraVNC for it start logging. E.g. Either the router or Win7 is blocking it ?

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can figure out what's going wrong ?

Thanks,

Steve
