2 VNC sessions over a network

Post by Guest »

I am running a LinkSys BEFSR41 V3
DHCP Turned off
Static IPs
Main Box xxx.xxx.xxx.101
File Server xxx.xxx.xxx.102

Routing Table
5910 ----> xxx.xxx.xxx.101 Main Box
5810 ----> xxx.xxx.xxx.101 Main Box

5900 ----> xxx.xxx.xxx.102 File Box
5800 ----> xxx.xxx.xxx.102 File Box

Servers setup on both machines to mirror it. (main box) is set to listen only on 5910/5810, and the (file box) is set to only listen for 5900/5800.

When I try to connect to my ip address http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5810 for the java viewer to the (main box)it works, and when I try the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5910 ultra VNC viewer(main box) it works.

When I try to connect to my ip address http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5800 for the java viewer to the (file box)it DOES NOT works, and when I try the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5900 ultra VNC viewer(file box) it DOES NOT works.

Mind you that both of the boxes have internet connection working, and each one of them can VNC locally. VNC viewer or Java viewer.

The question is WHY can't I reach the file box xxx.xxx.xxx.102 by viewer or java viewer by typing http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5800 or going through a viewer with xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5900.
(Out side of my network)
The MAIN box works great, the file server never works. I have even tried taking down the active MAIN box VNC session, but still it will not resolve with the FILE box.

In short HELP please!!!
Thank you for your time.

Firewall configuration

Post by Leonard »

Sounds like a configuration issue with the firewall (typo maybe) or a route problem (the non-working box not pointed to the right default gateway )?

I would setup wwinpcap and windump or ethereal to monitor traffic and confirm that the traffic is actually making it to the system.

When I got home lastnight and stopped playing around with it from work I noticed I had the gateway off by 1 digit. =/

Thank you for the advice, that would have worked 100% if I hadn't noticed the gateway. Thanks for the answers!
