I'm doing a new "Chunk VNC" - Maybe a Fork?

Post by LFCavalcanti »

Hello!

It's been a while since I last posted here...

First, Supercoe had an wonderful idea with ChunkVNC, it was almost what I needed, but some features were missing:
- Better compatibility with Windows 7 and 8.
- Better deployment.
- Better resource and version management.

I think Supercoe didn't had intention to make ChunkVNC the next Teamviewer but, since everyone have different goals, I decided to put effort on the Idea.

Let's talk about scenario: I manage a team in a IT service provider, we support and maintain currently 35 companies, with over 1100 stations and 250 servers, that's a lot to manage and since we do most work remotely, we need a good tool for it. Affording the absurd prices of Teamviewer and LogMeIn was not an option, since we are a small company our selves. So I thought why not develop a solution based on the ChunkVNC, that would solve my problem? So here I am, and before anyone point fingers, yes I'll publish the software and it's source, I'm about to bring my own website online, I'll host the files there, if someone from the uVNC team wants, it can be hosted in their servers too.

About a year ago I posted in two threads:
https://forum.ultravnc.net/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=30009
https://forum.ultravnc.net/viewtopic.ph ... 892#p94892

Well, the AutoIT itself is pretty easy, I recomend it to anyone that deals with Windows Stations and want to automate(scripts) things.

However I have some difficulties concerning the UltraVNC Service. I had to create an entire separate service to run it, so other instances of VNC would not conflict, that made me handle Registry Keys and all those things Microsoft loves to make bureaucratic. Well, that's done, what I need is some way to obtain from the uVNC service status information regarding it's connection with the repeater. Some times, even with the "-autoreconnect" parameter it loses conectivity. So... together with the main menu, I'm almost finishing a service, that will monitor the connectivity with the repeater and reestablish if needed.

Another thing I would really want is some control on the repeater, to store which ID's are in use and where. I thought about modifying that repeater in PEARL, but I would have to learn the language and my time is very limited.

A Linux version is also in my mind, I'm learning Pyton and will probably use it.

So, any advice?

Also, I need some help concerning the license, please, if Supercoe and someone from the uVNC team could contact me to help with it, I'm not sure which license should I publish it to respect both ChunkVNC and Ultra VNC licenses.
