Cannot connect to a few PCs anymore...

Post by jhscu »

We have uVNC set up on 100+ PCs at my company and for 2 machines it started giving errors when you remote in. Using Windows Authentication, after you enter you info it will say VncViewer Message Box: authentication rejected. If I try to re-deploy VNC and connect it will say Failed to connect to server. Oddly enough, I can still use the screencap feature I just cannot VNC in.

It worked earlier this week but it stopped yesterday. If I reboot the PCs I can connect to them again but after about 5-10 minutes it will give the same errors again. I tried clearing the logs for Windows Application and Systems logs, removing and adding the PCs again, reinstalling VNC, and it's still not working. I can still remote into all the other PCs, can deploy the same VNC install and have it work, we have no Windows Firewall enabled and our AV does not have Firewall enabled either (we use a 3rd party for that, but it would either block it for all PCs or none, not just 2), no GPO enforced that would prevent this, and users trying to connect are in the Administrators group. Again, it just recently stopped working without any changes being made.

I'm running out of ideas here...any thoughts?

"authentication rejected" is an answer from the server based on ip address
Remove/install software doesn't erase the ini file

Usual set by
AuthHosts=
+ =allow
- = deny
? = query
syntax:
-:+10.0.60.141:?10.0.31.169:-10.0.20.240:
instead of 10.0.60.141 you can use 10.0.60, then it is valid for the full range of ip addresses.

QuerySetting=2
Define on how to react on the (-,?,+) from the Authhosts.
0="+:Accept, ?:Accept, -:Query"
1="+:Accept, ?:Accept, -:Reject"
2="+:Accept, ?:Query, -:Reject [Default]"
3="+:Query, ?:Query, -:Reject"
4="+:Query, ?:Reject, -:Reject"
