Configuring uvnc repeater

Post by Benmorgan86uk »

I don't know if I am missing something but here goes:

I am currently attempting to set up VNC so I can connect over the web to another location (inside a NAT).

I have installed the repeater and got that running, and both my machine, and the machine at the other end can connect to the repeater.

I have tried to connect to the machine at the other end and the the connection stalls on "password requested"

I have tried various recent versions including 1.2.10, and I cannot seem to get beyond this point, I have also tried adding the SecureVNCPlugin but I still get this same prompt.

My client machine is Windows 8.1 x64 and my server is Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 but no matter what I try, I just can't seem to get this bit going. If anyone can help me, I will be eternally grateful (well, for a while anyway).

Ben :surprise:

Hi, been there!

What I have always been successful at is first trying to connect two machines which are running on the same LAN network. Then branching out with the repeater, port forwarding, encryption, DNS redirect. etc.

Get the machines talking to one another without any encryption first. Set up the ports using the Admin program (uvnc-settings), it works better than trying to modify once the server is running.

Make sure the VNC Server field name is correct from the viewer. From the viewer type in the IP address (or Machine name) and Port in this format xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx::port. If this works you should get the PW prompt box.

When trying to connect from outside the LAN area, you will need to port forward your router and have a DNS redirect account. Also make sure wherever you are trying to connect from that port is also open. ie my work blocks all ports except 443. So, that's the port on my repeater.

Good luck
