VNC Server upgrade

Post by DavideCapod »

Why the latest setup programs need to restart the system to upgrade an existing vnc installation?
I remember that previous ones could stop winvnc, do the upgrade and that restart the service WITHOUT rebooting, that can be a big problem if you are using winvnc on a server...

Thanks

You have to uninstall and reinstall the new video driver.

For each version the vncdrv.sys and vnccom.sys are a pair. Vncdrv.sys is a kernel driver, can only be unloadaed on reboot. After upgrading the driver, vncdrv.sys is still the old version, but vnccom.sys is already yhe new. The switch of vncdrv.sys is done on reboot. Don't use the driver before you reboot
