Cannot enter more than 8 characters for UltraVNC password

Post by Georg Capco »

Hello,
I hope I am not asking a question that has already been answered.

I am trying to login to a remote PC on my LAN. I know the password but UltraVNC viewer will not let me enter more than 8 characters (my password is 12 characters long). When I try to enter my password UltraVNC gives message "authentication rejected" due to the 8 character limit. Since the 12 character password has been in use for about 15 years I would rather not reset it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Brett

VNc password is only 8 chars, all vnc flavors use the same small 8 char password size.

It's just not possible to have 12 chars saved, as the arrays is only 8 long.
If you are able to enter 12 a char of 12, some server versions allow you to enter more chars, but only save the first 8
Sorry, this is how it's defined in the rfb protocol. A vnc password is 8 chars.

In ultravnc, you can have longer passwords.
-via the encryption plugins: you can use a password of 1024 chars
-MSlogon: 32 chars passwords
