The description for Event ID 2 from source UltraVNC cannot b

Post by golas »

The description for Event ID 2 from source UltraVNC cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

I had this in old version 1.2.11 . Reinstalled to 1.2.17. Still the same!

Any clues?

It's flooding my event log, basically nothing there just VNC.

We only log one thing to the eventviewer
-It log all connections or connection attemps

What's in the details of this event.

Normal the message id is translated by the logmessages.dll in the ultravnc folder.

I've used the UltraVnc_1_2_17_ALL.zip extracted the logmessages.dll from 32\xp folder (even I am on 64 bit Windows 7), restarted the VNC service and tada :)
Event Viewer is reporting that client with IP did not connect instead of error.
Thanks a lot for your help!
Just curious is there any chance to disable logging to event viewer at all?

No, the logging is essential for security.
Compared to the system events it are just a few messages....

So, the logmessages.dll is missing from the x64 installer exe. Looks like it has been missing from it for quite a few release versions...

It /does/ appear to be present in the MSI installer file, or it can be copied from the 32bit install source files, but it is kind of annoying to have to do that.

The logging.dll file is NOT the same as the logmessages.dll, so you can't change the registry to use logging.dll instead of logmessages.dll

the actual logmessages.dll file doesnt have a whole lot in it... - in fact, I /think/ it is completely blank, because that file would only contain "descriptions" of the event ID's, and the event messages themselves pretty much sum the whole thing up pretty well, right under this bit:
"The following information was included with the event: "
