Help! Setting Up Ultra VNC Server

Post by Guest »

I've looked and looked both on this site (FAQ) and on ultraVNC.Sourceforge.net site.

When I am running setup it has the following:

Register Ultr@VNC Server as a system service
AND
Start or restart Ultr@VNC Service

I don't know what either of them do or what they mean and thusly I don't know if *I* need to apply them at setup.

Also, is getting a static IP the only way for me to be able to locate the server? The server will be behind a linksys router so I'm not sure that anything would work.

Thanks in advance...I really need to get myself a username....

Heyhey,

well, you have the choice to run UltraVnc as a normal application which is to be started manually (doubleclick or commandline).
Or you can register a service which means that UltraVNC is started on every reboot automatically. Also it is possible to start or stop
the service manually via System Settings -> administration -> services (or something like that).
You are asked if you would like to register the service or not (it is possible to register later via Start-menu entries).
If you register the service it can be started right after installation is complete or restart the service if it is already running (former VNC-Server). RC18 want's you to reboot after installation so the service will be started then.

I really recommend to read docu to understand how to connect to your server through the router... I don't think I have all the background knowledge to give proper advice...

Hope that helps
