Speed Question RC11d Vs Rc18?

Post by Kevink »

As the title says, Is RC18 Faster than RC11d. I need to run CAD applications remotely and It is mouse intensive. I am running RC11d just fine right now. I could use better rendering of fine details that are remote. i.e motion simulation.
What kind of differences should I expect. Any notable big bugs?
Thanks,
Kevin

Check the News "Announcements and Releases" on this forum.

We had several TEST18 before RC18 was released, i don't think that there are serious bugs open.

RC11+driver : cursor is always handled as bitmap
RC18+driver : cursor can be handled as bitmap or local cursor
In RC18 you can use the driver for lan and low bandwidth connections.

Just give it a try

Rudi,
Firstly, I want to say thank you for your work. Your skills and talent and willingness to help has made at least my life better :) .
I am in need of a little clarification on the detail of this video driver. I have read every linked page I can find and I am left with a few questions.
Currently I am running RC11d. In my server properties, the checkboxes for "System Hookdll" and "Video hook driver" are checked. I have not installed the video driver from http://dl.ultravnc.net/D_ultravnc18.zip

Question 1: Does the "Video hook driver" setting refer to that video driver?
If so, then having that checkbox checked will do nothing for me?

Yes, "Video hook driver" setting refers to the video driver that must be installed separatelly.

If the driver is not installed, checking this option has no effect, and you're using the "normal" UltraVNC optimized fullscreen polling.
"SystemHookDll" is another way of detecting screen changes and mouse moves that is complementary to the screen polling method.

Speed ... and where do I load the "Video hook driver&qu

Thanks guys,

This thread has been really helpful! But how's this for a dumb question - if I want to speed up the refresh rate on my viewer as I help a third party, do I install the separate video driver on the server end (them) or at the viewer end (me) ?

The driver must be installed on server end.
The driver detects screen changes that occurs on the server.
