Help with UVNC/XP/multiple users

Post by BryanS »

Hello all,

I recently came across UltraVNC and am working on
getting it setup on my home PC so that I can VNC in
from a laptop while I"m on the road. My problem is
this - the home PC is an XP Home box, with 2 user
accounts, let"s call them A and B. I have UltraVNC
set up to use a Windows login, and I use account A"s
login for that. No problem so far. Now, what I"ve
seen is that, if in the meantime, user B logs in
locally (we use fast user switching in XP, never
really logging out), and I then VNC in with account
A"s login, I just get a black screen in UVNC. What I
seem to need to do is relogin with account A locally,
and then log back out, and UVNC will work fine.

I"ve also had some similiar problems where once I log
myself out over VNC, I can"t get back in. In general,
it seems that the different account log in/out is
causing some headaches with UVNC. (For example, I had
it working a minute ago, and now I get to the point
where I put in my Windows login info and enter it, but
VNC never even starts.)

I am also using the DSM plugin, and tunneling with
Zebedee for added security if that could possibly be
linked to my problems.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Bryan

You'll have to disable fast user switching if you want to connect at all times. If that isn't an option then I guess you could have whoever is logging on, log out when they're done and log back into your account. But who would want to do that all the time?
