Should work the same way as under W2K/XP with the exception that you cannot use local groups or users. I don't have W98 here so I cannot test it.
Maybe you need to install ADSI for W98 to get it working (http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/nts/d ... er/adsi25/).
You can also use the testauth.exe utility (you can find it in the ultravnc installation directory) to get more information on what is happening.

Found more info in http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/mslogon1.htm:
To use MS Logon under Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows Millennium Edition,
you also have to enable the NTLM security services by opening
Control Panel, Network, Access Control, and then selecting User-level access control.
Win 9.x require 2 dlls radmin32.dll and rlocal32.dll this can be found in the nexus.exe ( Microsoft Windows NT Server Management-hulpprogramma's (Nexus.exe))

MS Logon feature won't work when server is running Win98se

Post by Geo111 »

:( We are having a big problem getting this to work too.

Using Win98se on the UltraVNC server and cannot get correct authenitcation to NT4 PDC (thus, no AD) via MSlogon. Always reports "authentication failed" and "wrong password". This works fine using a W2K VNC server.

This is what we have done so far to get the UltaVNC server working from a Win98se machine:

1. enabled the NTLM security services;

2. added the 2 dlls; radmin32.dll and rlocal32.dll to 'Windows' directory as described above and at http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/mslogon3.htm;

3. freshly install UltraVNC RC18 on the Win98se server and on client viewer (using all install defaults);

4. created a Global group called 'test_g' and user 'xtester' on the NT4 PDC;

5. logged onto NT Domain from Win98se UltraVNC server machine;

6. on connection attempt from client get on the client - "VNC authentication failed!";

7. updated the 'auth.dll' in UltraVNC directory from http://ftp.erm.tu-cottbus.de/ultravnc/u ... Slogon.zip;

8. on connection attempt from client now the following occurs:

On the server a pop-up occurs - "You selected MS-logon but the auth.dll was not found. Check your installation."

When server pop-up above is closed, the client shows pop-up - "VNC authentication failed!"

9. used the testauth.exe utility and get the following result;

"Enter user name : xtester
Enter password : tester
Enter group : test_g
loc=1 dom=3 local+domain=3 : 3

Trying auth.dll
--------------
auth.dll not foundbased on auth.dll user has NO access"

Anyone any ideas what we should be trying next?

Kind regards.

The new auth.dll (ultravnc-newMSlogon.zip) won't work on Win 9x, only W2K or better.
But the message you get indicates that there is some other error since the dll is not even found. For testauth.exe, you need to have it in the current directory.
To do further tests, you should go back to auth.dll and testauth.exe provided with RC18 and have a look at the output of testauth.exe.
